Clean and degrease it

The window must be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. This can be done simply with warm water and a drop of dish soap. A thorough cleaning prevents dirt and dust particles from getting between the window and the film. Remove any blemishes with a window scraper.

Measuring the window

First, measure the window with the tape measure.

Cutting or clipping the foil to size

Roughly cut the film to size. We recommend cutting the window film 1 to 2 centimeters wider than your measured width. You can easily trim away any excess film.

Stick window wet

First, thoroughly spray the window with a plant sprayer. This will allow the film to shift during application.

Remove protective film

Peel off the backing (this can be paper or transparent film) from the window film. This is easily done by applying tape to both the window film and the backing.

Wetting window film

Carefully peel the backing from the window film. Immediately spray the exposed window film with water. This prevents the static charge from attracting dust particles and getting between the film and the window.

Applying window film to the window

Start in a corner and work your way out. Make sure the film is pressed tightly against the window. Applying window film is a simple but precise job. We therefore recommend two people.

Wipe away excess water

Once the window film is applied to your liking, remove any excess water between the window and the film. Use the squeegee (to prevent scratching) to smooth the film from the center outward.

The finishing

Now that the window film is in place, you can trim away any excess film with a utility knife, if applicable. After that, you're done and can enjoy your privacy, cool air, and immediately save on your energy costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

I applied my window film to the window using water, but now white spots are appearing in the film. What should I do?

The white spots are damp patches. Remove as much of the water as possible with a squeegee. Any remaining spots will disappear on their own once the water evaporates.

Help, my window film is full of creases and bubbles, what now?

Window film should be applied with plenty of water. Creases and bubbles will occur if insufficient water is used or if the film is not applied properly. Static-resistant window film can be removed from the window and reapplied. It will always retain its static cling.

Help, my window film keeps coming loose and won't stay on the glass, what can I do?

Make sure you've removed the backing before applying the film to the window. In cold weather, preheat the window film to 80-90°C (176-194°F). You can do this with a regular hairdryer or hot water. This ensures that the film becomes pliable and sits flat against the window.

Can I reuse window film?

Yes, static cling window film retains its static cling.

Can I also stick the foil without water?

No, it will come loose over time.

Homewell accepts no liability for any damage suffered as a result of using our sun protection window film.
